The People Behind the Business
My name is Ray Smith and I founded After Hours Plumbing in 1993. What began as a second source of income for my wife Michaell and I while raising our family in Camas, soon grew into a full-time company. After earning his bachelor’s degree in 2013, our son Mike joined the team as the fourth generation plumber in the Smith family. While our company is rooted in Southwest Washington, the family business actually began in New Mexico back in 1950. That means the Smith family has been meeting the plumbing needs of our neighbors for over five decades.
Today, my 30 years of Journeyman experience brings you the technical skills, advice, and answers you’d expect from a seasoned professional. Mike’s knowledge and skill as a licensed plumber, as well as his dedication to professionalism and communication assure you of a rewarding plumbing experience.
Michaell keeps her finger on the pulse of the business as office manager, ensuring our company’s priorities are serving our community. Most of our business is built off of referrals and we’re confident you’ll understand why.
Our family is growing alongside our local neighborhoods. We’re dedicated to creating a service company that makes you feel like a valued member of our community.

After Hours Plumbing LLC does not charge mileage for jobs in Vancouver, Camas, Washougal, and other Southern Clark County locations. For site locations outside of our primary work area, ask our scheduler while setting up your appointment.
What are your rates?
A service call includes the first hour of service at our hourly rate, which is $120 as of April 2019. Select jobs are billed at a flat rate or as estimate work.
Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?
Yes. Our plumbers are licensed to perform residential and commercial work in Washington State.
HAVE A DIFFERENT QUESTION?
Because of the nature of the job, plumbers are often asked the same questions. We’ve compiled a handy FAQ to hopefully answer some of your plumbing questions:
What can I put down my garbage disposal?
You can put any kind of soft, edible material down a garbage disposal. Avoid bone, coffee grounds, corn husks, or other fibrous materials.
Why should I get a tankless water heater?
We’re often asked about the benefits of tankless or on-demand water heaters. Gas tankless water heaters are energy efficient and provide the added benefit of allowing you
My drains or toilet stinks. What can I do?
Most pipes have curves in them to catch trash like food, grease, or solid waste before going to the sewer. You can either take the U-bend apart and clean
Why is my water heater making noise?
If your water heater starts making a lot of noise, you’ve probably got serious issues. It could cause a short that blows your circuit breakers. It could also start to build up sediment, which clogs up your water heater and burns excess electricity to heat. You might be able to beat repairs temporarily by draining the system completely and then refilling it.
I don’t have enough hot water. How long should a water heater last?
Your hot water tank normally runs 24/7, so you should buy a quality one. High-quality tanks could provide over an hour of hot water and only cost about fifty cents a day. Drain it once a year, and it’ll last a long, long time.
Why do I need a pressure regulator valve (PRV) or copper piping?
It’s important to get the right equipment. When you use water, it’s delivered from a good distance away, and it’s forced via a pressurized system. This pressure can bust low-quality pipes and equipment. Having a PRV and quality piping can be the difference between reliability and a huge mess.
How much do plumbers make? How can I learn more about plumbing?
You don’t need a degree to be a plumber. You might be surprised to know that the average salary for a plumber averages over $50,000. Plumbing is also a very steady job market that’s expected to grow by about 26 percent in the future.
